For visiting boats, Santa Barbara’s central California location provides easy access from anywhere between San Diego and San Francisco. Trailer storage and dockage will be available for the event. SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL Santa Barbara Channel offers 50 miles of unparalleled scenery. It is bordered by the Channel Islands National Park to the south and the ‘American riviera’ to the north. In August, the venue typically provides a sea breeze of 12-18 knots from the WSW, but has a variety of wind conditions and average temperatures of 77 degrees.
The city of Santa Barbara is one of Southern California’s top family vacation destinations, and offers a wide range of options for racers and their ‘shore crew’.
SANTA BARBARA YACHT CLUB
One of the oldest clubs on the west coast, Santa Barbara Yacht Club has served racing sailors since 1872. Its current location overlooks the mountains, beaches, and harbor of Santa Barbara. The club supports a wide range of one design, dinghy, and rating rule classes for all ages. The members welcome all regatta participants to enjoy SBYC, the city, and the excellent sailing conditions of Santa Barbara.
If you have further questions, please contact the Santa Barbara Yacht Club Race Office: [email protected] or (805) 965-8112.

Logistics
Vehicle Parking for CREW, SPECTATORS, and OTHERS
Due to short supply of parking in the SBYC club lot, competitor vehicles will only be allowed in the SBYC lot for short periods of time to unhitch and hitch boat trailers. However, there is a public parking lot on the north side of the harbor as shown in ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’. All day parking costs $12 per vehicle. For those who are willing to walk a little further, there is limited free parking in the Pershing Park parking lot (on the west side of Castillo Street, just north of the Pershing Park baseball diamonds). This is also shown on 'Attachment H - Harbor Map.'
Boat Dry Storage & Trailer Storage
*Boat / trailer storage in the SBYC lot is available the Thursday morning preceding the regatta to the Wednesday morning following the regatta. Any additional storage time needed must be requested in writing to [email protected] and will only be facilitated in certain cases.
Upon arrival, please contact the front desk for entrance into the SBYC lot - (805) 965-8112. The front desk has someone present from 9am - 7pm . If you are planning on coming before or after these hours, please email [email protected] and [email protected] to see if we can accommodate entrance into the lot. It is recommended to bring boats during the hours the front desk is staffed.
Boats may be set up to launch in the Southwest corner of the SBYC parking lot (furthest from club and closest to the beach). There is a hose for competitors to use at this location. Power can be run from the boat yard if needed. After boats have been launched, trailers will be stored in this same location as shown in ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’.
Launching
The SBYC hoist is located on the pier closest to the yacht club (gray in color). Currently, no key is necessary to operate the hoist and it is always on. If available, it is suggested you enlist the assistance of a SBYC member who is experienced with the use of the hoist.
The 4 ton city hoist is beige in color and located at the end of the long pier next to the SBYC hoist and runs on quarters. If you feel you must lift your boat without attaching the keel and launch with the keel down, you will want to use this hoist. However, it is a very long pier to back down and you are likely to encounter considerable commercial traffic and tourism. This hoist is also known to have an appetite for Windexs.
There is also a public launch ramp located at the eastern most part of the harbor, as shown in Attachment H.
Hoisting Out
All three methods listed above are available for hoisting out. SBYC End Tie D may be used to derig while waiting for the hoists to be available.
*PRO TIP: After launching the boats on Friday night or Saturday morning, simply drive your car and trailer over to the public launch ramp to have available to pull out there. Since there are multiple launch ramps, it is anticipated that boats doing this will find themselves ready to get on the road the fastest as there will most likely be no line at the ramps. There is a hose that takes quarters at the launch ramp location.
Boat Wet Storage
Once boats have been launched, they may be rafted off end tie D (79 feet long) as shown on ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’. Boats may be rafted three deep and may stick over the ends of the dock by two feet either way. Please bring fenders.
Yacht Club Facilities
The Yacht Club facilities will be open to all competitors. No-host competitor breakfast will be available each day of the regatta starting at 10:00am. The Yacht Club only accepts credit card charges for visitors. Free ice is available on the southwest corner of the club. A key for the ice machine is available at the front desk.
Marina Gate Entry
The Marina One entrance is located between SBYC and the breakwater as shown in ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’. Marina One gate cards may be purchased from the harbor department for $7 (located next to SBYC).
Restrooms / Showers
The Yacht Club restrooms & showers are available during regular operating hours or with a SBYC parking lot gate card after hours. The Marina restrooms are accessible with a marina gate card. Public restrooms are also available adjacent to the harbor public parking lot near the launch ramp. Most of the Marina restroom facilities have showers.
