For visiting boats, Santa Barbara’s central California location provides easy access from anywhere between San Diego and San Francisco. Trailer storage and dockage will be available for the event.
SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL
Santa Barbara Channel offers 50 miles of unparalleled scenery. It is bordered by the Channel Islands National Park to the south and the ‘American riviera’ to the north. In August, the venue typically provides a sea breeze of 12-18 knots from the WSW, but has a variety of wind conditions and average temperatures of 77 degrees.
The city of Santa Barbara is one of Southern California’s top family vacation destinations, and offers a wide range of options for racers and their ‘shore crew’.
SANTA BARBARA YACHT CLUB
One of the oldest clubs on the west coast, Santa Barbara Yacht Club has served racing sailors since 1872. Its current location overlooks the mountains, beaches, and harbor of Santa Barbara. The club supports a wide range of one design, dinghy, and rating rule classes for all ages. The members welcome all regatta participants to enjoy SBYC, the city, and the excellent sailing conditions of Santa Barbara.
If you have further questions, please contact the Santa Barbara Yacht Club Race Office: [email protected] or (805) 965-8112.

Logistics
Vehicle Parking for CREW, SPECTATORS, and OTHERS
Due to short supply of parking in the SBYC club lot, competitor vehicles will only be allowed in the SBYC lot for short periods of time to unhitch and hitch boat trailers. However, there is a public parking lot on the north side of the harbor as shown in ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’. All day parking costs $12 per vehicle. For those who are willing to walk, there is limited free parking in the Pershing Park parking lot (on the west side of Castillo Street, just north of the Pershing Park baseball diamonds).
Boat Dry Storage & Trailer Storage
Upon arrival, boats may be set up to launch in the Southwest corner of the SBYC parking lot (furthest from club and closest to the ocean), adjacent to the boat yard. There is a hose for competitors to use at this location. Power can be run from the boat yard if needed. After boats have been launched, trailers will be stored in this same location as shown in ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’. Please contact the front desk for entrance into the SBYC lot - (805) 965-8112.
Yacht Club Facilities
The Yacht Club facilities will be open to all competitors. The Yacht Club only accepts credit card charges for visitors.
Marina Gate Entry
The Marina One entrance is located between SBYC and the breakwater as shown in ‘Attachment H – Santa Barbara Harbor Map’. Marina One gate cards may be purchased from the harbor department for $10 (located next to SBYC).
Restrooms / Showers
The Yacht Club restrooms & showers are available during regular operating hours or with a SBYC parking lot gate card after hours. The Marina restrooms are accessible with a marina gate card. Public restrooms are also available adjacent to the harbor public parking lot near the launch ramp. Most of the Marina restroom facilities have showers.
Lodging
There are several hotels on Cabrillo Boulevard within walking distance of the regatta site. Other more affordable options are also available in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, or Goleta within a 15 minute drive. Visit: https://santabarbaraca.com/places-to-stay/ for a list of area hotels. Camping is prohibited in the Santa Barbara Harbor parking area. Please visit: http://www.santabarbara.com/activities/camping/ for a complete list of nearby campsites.
Launching
The SBYC hoist is located on the pier closest to the yacht club (gray in color). The hoist key is available from the front desk of SBYC. If available, it is suggested you enlist the assistance of a SBYC member who is experienced with the use of the hoist.
The 4 ton city hoist is beige in color and located at the end of the long pier next to the SBYC hoist and runs on quarters. If you feel you must lift your boat without attaching the keel and launch with the keel down, you will want to use this hoist. However, it is a very long pier to back down and you are likely to encounter considerable commercial traffic and tourism. This hoist is also known to have an appetite for Windexs.
Boat Wet Storage
Once boats have been launched, they may be rafted off end tie D as shown on ‘Attachment H – Harbor Map’. Boats may be rafted four deep and four long. Additional rafting storage may be available off of the Youth Foundation dock and assigned at check in.
